In the leadup to Christmas, chestnuts fly off the supermarket shelves and are found in an increasing number of ready prepared meals and snacks. Chestnuts are traditionally used in many stuffing recipes including vegetarian stuffing.
When are Chestnuts in Season?
Being in season just before Christmas time (typically from September through to November) they have long been a festive favourite of consumers in the UK.
At Porter, we believe chestnuts shouldn’t just be for Christmas, but to be enjoyed all year round.
With modern food preserving technologies, we no longer need to rely on chestnuts being in season to enjoy them in our recipes. Our whole chestnuts are grown in Italy until perfectly ripe. They are then vacuum sealed and stored at ambient temperatures, ready to be eaten at any time during the year.
Are Chestnuts Healthy?
The UK consumers are becoming more and more aware of the health benefits of chestnuts, prompting a huge surge in new recipes of delicious dishes containing chestnuts. We’re constantly discovering new ways of using chestnuts – the nut that’s not a nut, (they’re a fruit) – are more popular than ever.
